Insomnium is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Johanna Kurkela, Enslaved, Amoral, Candlelight Records and Miika Tenkula. Those roots explain a lot about how Insomnium arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Dark Tranquillity, Mors Principium Est, The Halo Effect, Amon Amarth and Soilwork, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Swallow the Sun, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 16 connections around Insomnium, reaching back through Johanna Kurkela and forward to Swallow the Sun. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
