Jad Fair is a Rap and Rock act. Their sound grew out of R. Stevie Moore, Gary Wilson, Yuri Landman and Daniel Johnston. Those roots explain a lot about how Jad Fair arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as R. Stevie Moore, Daniel Johnston, Guided by Voices, Ariel Pink and Bar Italia, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Thurston Moore, Yo La Tengo, Norman Blake, Daniel Johnston and J Mascis, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 27 connections around Jad Fair, reaching back through R. Stevie Moore and forward to Thurston Moore. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
