James

Psychedelic rock

James is a Psychedelic rock act. Their sound grew out of The Twang, So Long, Marianne, Doves, Stephen Hague and The Fall. Those roots explain a lot about how James arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Shed Seven, Ocean Colour Scene, Cast, Doves and The Beautiful South, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Mar de Copas, The Slow Readers Club, Pablo Honey, The Stone Roses and Blossoms, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 41 connections around James, reaching back through The Twang and forward to Mar de Copas. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
