◇ image via WikipediaPrimal Scream
Primal Scream is a Rap act. Their sound grew out of The Jesus and Mary Chain, Augustus Pablo, Eddie Hazel, Tago Mago and Exit Planet Dust. Those roots explain a lot about how Primal Scream arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Ian Brown, Teenage Fanclub, Manic Street Preachers, Ocean Colour Scene and Elastica, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The View, West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, Pale Saints, Who Built the Moon? and Since I Left You, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 73 connections around Primal Scream, reaching back through The Jesus and Mary Chain and forward to The View. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
