Rap

Manic Street Preachers is a Rap act. Their sound grew out of Magazine, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Rolling Stones. Those roots explain a lot about how Manic Street Preachers arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Ocean Colour Scene, Catatonia, Mansun, Ash and Shed Seven, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Funeral for a Friend, Impossible Princess, The Proclaimers, Apollo 440 and Feeder, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 88 connections around Manic Street Preachers, reaching back through Magazine and forward to Funeral for a Friend.
