Jupiter Apple

Jupiter Apple is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Pink Floyd, Woody Guthrie, Os Cascavelletes, Paul McCartney and Syd Barrett. Those roots explain a lot about how Jupiter Apple arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Os Cascavelletes, Os Mutantes, Arnaldo Baptista, Cachorro Grande and Secos & Molhados, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Rogério Skylab and Ira!, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 23 connections around Jupiter Apple, reaching back through Pink Floyd and forward to Rogério Skylab. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.

Background

Flávio Basso, better known by his stage name Júpiter Maçã and by its English-language variation Jupiter Apple, was a Brazilian singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and filmmaker. Before beginning a solo career in 1994, he was already known for being a founding member of bands TNT and Os Cascavelletes, both pioneers of the Rio Grande do Sul rock scene in the mid-to-late 1980s/early 1990s.
