Syd Barrett is a Progressive rock and Psychedelic rock act. Their catalogue also touches Rock. Their sound grew out of Kevin Ayers, Blind Boy Fuller, A Nice Pair, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. Those roots explain a lot about how Syd Barrett arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Jefferson Airplane, The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, Kaleidoscope, The United States of America and Os Mutantes, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Julian Cope, Placebo, Jeff Beck, Soft Machine and Meddle, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 60 connections around Syd Barrett, reaching back through Kevin Ayers and forward to Julian Cope.
