Kitty Ray is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of J Dilla, Max B, Carly Rae Jepsen, Why? and Idris Muhammad. Those roots explain a lot about how Kitty Ray arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Kitty, Coco & Clair Clair, Kreayshawn, Thaiboy Digital and Yung Lean, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Riff Raff, Teen Suicide and Ricky Eat Acid, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 29 connections around Kitty Ray, reaching back through J Dilla and forward to Riff Raff. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
