◇ image via WikipediaElmore James
Elmore James is a Blues and Rhythm and blues act. Their sound grew out of Arthur Crudup, Memphis Slim, I Believe I'll Dust My Broom, Fred Below and Robert Johnson. Those roots explain a lot about how Elmore James arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as John Lee Hooker, Magic Sam, Son House, Albert King and Slim Harpo, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Texas, Bobby Womack, For You Blue, Robert Lockwood Jr. and Sonny Boy Williamson II, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 75 connections around Elmore James, reaching back through Arthur Crudup and forward to Texas. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
