Mumm-Ra

Mumm-Ra is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of The Horrors. Those roots explain a lot about how Mumm-Ra arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Pete and the Pirates, We Are Scientists, The Futureheads, Sundara Karma and The Courteeners, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The Killers, Mirrors, Kaiser Chiefs, The Kooks and The Automatic, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 31 connections around Mumm-Ra, reaching back through The Horrors and forward to The Killers. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.

Background

Mumm-Ra is an English indie rock band, formed in Bexhill-on-Sea in the early 2000s. The band's name is borrowed from the 1980s cartoon, ThunderCats, whose main villain is named Mumm-Ra the Ever-Living. The group consists of vocalist, keyboard player, and occasional guitarist James New, guitarists James Arguile and Oli Frost, bassist Niall Buckler, and drummer Gareth Jennings. Keyboard player Tommy Bowen joined in 2006 as a touring member, before being made a fully fledged member in their 2012 reunion.
