The Automatic is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Gordon Moakes, Talking Heads, Usher, The Twang and Mumm-Ra. They run in the same orbit as Prewn, TTSSFU, Water From Your Eyes, Electrelane and Baxter Dury, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The View, Bloc Party and The Blackout, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 43 connections around The Automatic, reaching back through Gordon Moakes and forward to The View. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
