Nearly God is a Trip hop act. Their sound grew out of Public Image Ltd., Siouxsie and the Banshees, Scott Walker, Sly and the Family Stone and Alison Moyet. Those roots explain a lot about how Nearly God arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Massive Attack, Moloko, Portishead, RJD2 and Mr. Scruff, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Altogether the chart holds 17 connections around Nearly God, reaching back through Public Image Ltd.. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.

Background

Nearly God is the unofficial second album by English rapper and producer Tricky. It was released in February 1996 under the pseudonym "Nearly God", which originated from an interview during which Tricky was asked "so how does it feel to be God... well, nearly God."
