◇ image via WikipediaMassive Attack
Massive Attack is a Trip hop act. Their sound grew out of The Paragons, Wally Badarou, Incredible Bongo Band, Charles Pitts and Octave One. Those roots explain a lot about how Massive Attack arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Tricky, Portishead, DJ Vadim, Sneaker Pimps and Moloko, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Maxinquaye, Talvin Singh, Maya Jane Coles, Elsiane and Rhys Fulber, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 103 connections around Massive Attack, reaching back through The Paragons and forward to Maxinquaye.
