Omawumi is a House act. Their sound grew out of Yinka Davies and Cobhams Asuquo. Those roots explain a lot about how Omawumi arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Chidinma, Sean Tizzle, Seyi Shay, Duncan Mighty and 9ice, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Seyi Shay, Donell Jones, Angelique Kidjo, Brymo and Ice Prince, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 25 connections around Omawumi, reaching back through Yinka Davies and forward to Seyi Shay.
