Randy Crawford is a Disco and House act. Their catalogue also touches Jazz and Rhythm and blues. Their sound grew out of B.B. King, At Last!, Womack & Womack, Norma Jean Wright and Johnny Bristol. They run in the same orbit as Patti Austin, George Benson, Brenda Russell, The Brand New Heavies and Lisa Stansfield, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Inaya Day, Unfinished Sympathy, Fred Wesley, Yurie Kokubu and Dina Carroll, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 55 connections around Randy Crawford, reaching back through B.B. King and forward to Inaya Day.
