David Gilmour

David Gilmour is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Stars on 45, Snowy White, Mica Paris, Bill Haley and Elvis Presley. Those roots explain a lot about how David Gilmour arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Roger Waters, Richard Wright, Peter Gabriel, Robert Plant and Dire Straits, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Jerry Cantrell, Kate Bush, Roy Harper, Bryan Ferry and Pete Townshend, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 62 connections around David Gilmour, reaching back through Stars on 45 and forward to Jerry Cantrell. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
