Savatage is a Heavy metal act. Their sound grew out of Forbidden, Nevermore, Van Halen, Badfinger and Black Sabbath. Those roots explain a lot about how Savatage arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Virgin Steele, Iced Earth, Grave Digger, Manowar and Sanctuary, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Trans-Siberian Orchestra, This Godless Endeavor, John Tardy, Donald Tardy and Nuclear Assault, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 30 connections around Savatage, reaching back through Forbidden and forward to Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
