Skepta is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of iLoveMakonnen, Headie One, Face, Sigma and Jae5. Those roots explain a lot about how Skepta arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Giggs, AJ Tracey, Stormzy, Dave and Ghetts, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Bob Vylan, JME, Wizkid, Drake and Kanye West, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 48 connections around Skepta, reaching back through iLoveMakonnen and forward to Bob Vylan. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
