◇ image via WikipediaSocial Distortion
Social Distortion is a Punk rock act. Their sound grew out of Flogging Molly, Epitaph Records, The Kills, Descendents and Sonny Curtis. Those roots explain a lot about how Social Distortion arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Bad Religion, NOFX, No Use for a Name, Street Dogs and Alkaline Trio, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Supersuckers, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, MxPx, The Gaslight Anthem and John Feldmann, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 60 connections around Social Distortion, reaching back through Flogging Molly and forward to Supersuckers.
