◇ image via WikipediaRancid
Rancid is a Punk rock act. Their sound grew out of Anti-Nowhere League, The Slackers, Pansy Division, Big D And The Kids Table and Aimee Allen. Those roots explain a lot about how Rancid arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as NOFX, The Interrupters, The Suicide Machines, Transplants and Less Than Jake, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Simple Plan, Blink-182, M. Shadows, Slightly Stoopid and Jim Lindberg, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 101 connections around Rancid, reaching back through Anti-Nowhere League and forward to Simple Plan.
