Stars is a Funk and Reggae act. Their sound grew out of Broken Social Scene, Working For A Nuclear Free City, The Stills and Greg Laswell. Those roots explain a lot about how Stars arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Broken Social Scene, The New Pornographers, Mates of State, Kevin Drew and Ra Ra Riot, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Land of Talk, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 30 connections around Stars, reaching back through Broken Social Scene and forward to Land of Talk.
