The New Pornographers

The New Pornographers is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Chutes Too Narrow, Zach Condon, Toronto, Waxahatchee and Destroyer. Those roots explain a lot about how The New Pornographers arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Destroyer, The Hold Steady, Stars, The Weakerthans and Broken Social Scene, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Beirut, Jeff Arwadi, The Zolas, St. Vincent and Zach Condon, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 39 connections around The New Pornographers, reaching back through Chutes Too Narrow and forward to Beirut. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
