Swamp Dogg is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Frank Zappa, Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin, King Curtis and Chuck Jackson. Those roots explain a lot about how Swamp Dogg arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Bobby Charles, Ike & Tina Turner, Isaac Hayes, Bill Withers and Clarence Carter, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into John Prine, Dr. Dre, Jenny Lewis, Justin Vernon and Gene Pitney, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 39 connections around Swamp Dogg, reaching back through Frank Zappa and forward to John Prine. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
