Will Young is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Goody Goody, Shawn Lee's Ping Pong Orchestra, Darius, Shawn Lee and Gareth Gates. Those roots explain a lot about how Will Young arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Take That, Gary Barlow, Sugababes, Olly Murs and The Saturdays, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Shayne Ward, Taio Cruz, Jamelia and M People, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 44 connections around Will Young, reaching back through Goody Goody and forward to Shayne Ward. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
