X Japan is a Heavy metal act. Their sound grew out of Colour, Bow Wow and Coldrain. Those roots explain a lot about how X Japan arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Hide, Luna Sea, DIR EN GREY, 聖飢魔II and Lareine, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Dezert, Esprit D'Air, Sadie, Black Light Burns and Park Chan-yeol, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 27 connections around X Japan, reaching back through Colour and forward to Dezert. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
