Codeine is an American indie rock band formed in 1989 in New York City. They released two full-length albums—Frigid Stars LP in 1990 and The White Birch in 1994. Although the group broke up in 1994 shortly after the release of The White Birch, their subdued and melancholic style helped pioneer the then-nascent slowcore subgenre of indie rock. Codeine has since reunited on two occasions: the first for a handful of shows in 2012, and a second time for a series of shows in New York City and Los Angeles in 2023.

Lovesliescrushing is an American musical duo from East Lansing, Michigan, United States, formed in 1991. The two primary members of the band are Scott Cortez, who variously contributes guitars, loops and effects, and Melissa Arpin-Duimstra, who is the duo's vocalist. They are known for their dense and surreal psychedelic music drawing from shoegaze and dream pop, with unorthodox instrumentation and little to no drums.

A.R. Kane is an English musical duo formed in 1986 by Alex Ayuli and Rudy Tambala. After releasing two early EPs to critical acclaim, the group topped the UK Independent Chart with their debut album 69 (1988). Their second album, i (1989), was also a top 10 hit. They were also part of the one-off collaboration MARRS, whose surprise dance hit "Pump Up the Volume" was released in 1987. Ayuli coined the term "dreampop" in the late 1980s to describe their eclectic sound, which blended elements such as effects-laden guitars, dub production, and drum machine backing.

Tarentel is a post-rock band which formed in San Francisco in 1995. Initially, the band consisted of Danny Grody and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma. The line-up altered over the years and has included John Hughes, Trevor Montgomery, Patricia Kavanaugh, Kenseth Thibideau, Jeffrey Rosenberg, Jim Redd, Tony Cross, Steve Dye and others.

Moonshake were a British-based experimental rock band, existing between 1991 and 1997. The only consistent member was singer, sampler player and occasional guitarist David Callahan, who initially co-led the project with Margaret Fiedler. Fiedler and bass player John Frenett left Moonshake in 1993 to form the more commercially successful Laika.

Mark David Hollis was an English musician, singer, and songwriter who was the co-founder, lead vocalist, lyricist, and songwriter of the new wave and post-rock band Talk Talk. Hollis achieved commercial success and critical acclaim in the 1980s and 1990s as a member of the band and wrote most of the songs, including hits like "It's My Life" and "Life's What You Make It". Though primarily a vocalist, Hollis became a prolific multi-instrumentalist, as he played guitars and keyboards.

Red House Painters were an American rock band formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1988. Founded by singer-songwriter and guitarist Mark Kozelek, along with drummer Anthony Koutsos, the band relocated to San Francisco, California where they were joined by bassist Jerry Vessel and guitarist Gorden Mack in 1989. Phil Carney would later replace Gorden Mack as the band's guitarist. The group released 6 studio albums and an EP, before dissolving in 2001, and are considered to be a pioneering act of the slowcore subgenre.
