Origami Angel is an American rock band from Washington D.C., consisting of singer and guitarist Ryland Heagy and drummer Pat Doherty. The duo formed the band in 2016 after the demise of a common prior band, and released a series of EPs leading up to their debut studio album, Somewhere City in 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic limited the ability to tour in support of the album, so they instead focused on recording material written during the prior sessions to release their second studio album, Gami Gang in 2021, and wrote and recorded further material for a series of smaller releases, including a mixtape, The Brightest Days, released in 2023. A third studio album, Feeling Not Found, was released on September 27, 2024.

Oh Wonder are an English, London-based alt-pop duo consisting of Anthony Vander West and Josephine Vander West. Since releasing their debut album, they have seen international success with their alt-pop singles. Oh Wonder recorded and released one song a month for a year, starting in September 2014. All of the songs were released together as a self-titled debut album in September 2015. In July 2017, the duo released their second album, Ultralife. In February 2020, they released their third album, No One Else Can Wear Your Crown. In October 2021, the now-married duo released their fourth studio album, 22 Break. In October 2022, they issued their fifth studio album, 22 Make. In September 2024, they began their 10 Years On project, where they re-recorded all of the tracks on their debut album, releasing them on a monthly basis during 2024 and 2025, with the finished album, Oh Wonder , coming out in September 2025.

Sydney Loren Bennett, known professionally as Syd, is an American singer and songwriter. She initially gained recognition as a member of the alternative hip hop collective Odd Future, and went on to co-found the band The Internet in 2011. In 2017, Bennett released her debut solo album Fin, followed by the EP Always Never Home. She released her second album, Broken Hearts Club, in 2022.

Quantavious Tavario Thomas, known professionally as Young Nudy, is an American rapper and singer. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, he is the cousin of fellow rapper 21 Savage. Thomas signed with RCA Records to release his debut studio album Anyways (2020), which was followed by Dr. Ev4l (2021), Rich Shooter (2021), EA Monster (2022), and Gumbo (2023). The latter spawned the single "Peaches and Eggplants", which peaked within the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100.

"Old Town Road" is the debut mainstream single by the American rapper and singer Lil Nas X, first released independently in December 2018. After gaining popularity, the single was re-released by Columbia Records in March 2019. He also recorded a remix with American country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, which was released on April 5, 2019. Both were included on Lil Nas X's second studio extended play (EP), 7 (2019). The song was recorded on December 2, 2018, at CinCoYo, based in Atlanta, Georgia. The song has been widely viewed as "country rap", a somewhat rare musical style not often heard in the mainstream prior to this song's release. Dutch record producer YoungKio composed the instrumental and made it available for purchase online in 2018. It features a sample of "34 Ghosts IV" by the American industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails. The sample was placed behind trap-style Roland TR-808 drums and bass. Lil Nas X purchased the instrumental for US$30 and recorded "Old Town Road" in one day. At the time, he had been living with his sister after dropping out of college; his real-world struggles were an influence on some of the lyrics.

"When I Was Older" is a song by American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish from the soundtrack album to the film Roma (2018). It was released as a single by Sony Masterworks on January 9, 2019. Eilish wrote the song with its producer, her brother Finneas O'Connell. "When I Was Older", an electronic track with lullaby-influenced instrumentation, has lyrics heavily inspired by the film's plot. The song was later included on the Japanese and Deluxe editions of Eilish's debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? (2019).
