Nicki Minaj is a Contemporary R&B and Hip hop act. Their catalogue also touches Pop and Trap. Their sound grew out of Foxy Brown, Boi-1da, I Believe I Can Fly, Cirkut and Sean Garrett. Those roots explain a lot about how Nicki Minaj arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as JT, Foxy Brown, Bia, DJ Khaled and Rihanna, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Charlie Puth, Chappell Roan, Ester Dean, Villano Antillano and Dawn Richard, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 173 connections around Nicki Minaj, reaching back through Foxy Brown and forward to Charlie Puth. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
