Cancer Bats is a Hardcore punk act. Their sound grew out of Bullet for My Valentine, Billy Talent, Pierce the Veil, Thursday and Funeral for a Friend. Those roots explain a lot about how Cancer Bats arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Comeback Kid, The Bronx, Stray from the Path, The Damned Things and 36 Crazyfists, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Rise Against, Bring Me the Horizon, Gallows, Alexisonfire and Silverstein, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 35 connections around Cancer Bats, reaching back through Bullet for My Valentine and forward to Rise Against.
