Chicago is a Alternative rock and Jazz act. Their catalogue also touches Rock. Their sound grew out of Goody Goody, Richard Marx, Mr. Mister, The Grass Roots and Adrian Gurvitz. Those roots explain a lot about how Chicago arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Little River Band, Seals & Crofts, Boston, Three Dog Night and America, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Myslovitz, Viola Wills, Malo, Peter Brown and PRETTYMUCH, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 81 connections around Chicago, reaching back through Goody Goody and forward to Myslovitz. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
