Earth, Wind & Fire is a Funk and Rhythm and blues act. Their sound grew out of War, Sly Stone, Stevie Wonder, Little Feat and The Dells. They run in the same orbit as Kool & The Gang, Rufus, The Whispers, The Gap Band and Ohio Players, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The Emotions, Nas, Gabrielle and Red Hot Chili Peppers, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 45 connections around Earth, Wind & Fire, reaching back through War and forward to The Emotions.
