Journey is a Progressive rock act. Their sound grew out of Tower of Power, John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, Marianas Trench, The Babys and Cold Blood. Those roots explain a lot about how Journey arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Boston, Night Ranger, Def Leppard, Toto and Eddie Money, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Van Halen, The Outfield, Collin Raye, Loverboy and Def Leppard, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 92 connections around Journey, reaching back through Tower of Power and forward to Van Halen. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
