Compay Segundo

Compay Segundo is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Buena Vista Social Club, Afro-Cuban All Stars and Manuel Guajiro Mirabal. Those roots explain a lot about how Compay Segundo arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Ibrahim Ferrer, Eliades Ochoa, Omara Portuondo, Rubén González and Sierra Maestra, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Vieja Trova Santiaguera and Making Movies, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 24 connections around Compay Segundo, reaching back through Buena Vista Social Club and forward to Vieja Trova Santiaguera. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
