Corey Harris is a Blues act. Their sound grew out of Ali Farka Touré, Woody Guthrie, Sleepy John Estes, Fred McDowell and Muddy Waters. Those roots explain a lot about how Corey Harris arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Koko Taylor, Bukka White, Susan Tedeschi, Slim Harpo and Little Walter, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Billy Bragg, Wilco, Keb' Mo' and Lutan Fyah, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 26 connections around Corey Harris, reaching back through Ali Farka Touré and forward to Billy Bragg.
