◇ image via WikipediaBilly Bragg
Billy Bragg is a Rap act. Their sound grew out of The Peel Session, The Style Council, Chas Smash, Shirley Collins and Joanna Newsom. Those roots explain a lot about how Billy Bragg arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Housemartins, Frank Turner, Lloyd Cole, Kirsty MacColl and Pete Seeger, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Stella Donnelly, Roger Lima, King Krule, Jamie T and Kind of Like Spitting, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 73 connections around Billy Bragg, reaching back through The Peel Session and forward to Stella Donnelly. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
