Deee-Lite is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Maceo Parker, Ian Pooley, Q-Tip, De La Soul and Jungle Brothers. Those roots explain a lot about how Deee-Lite arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Ce Ce Peniston, Black Box, Crystal Waters, Dannii Minogue and Basement Jaxx, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Barbara Tucker, Arthur Russell, Jungle Brothers, Sinéad O'Connor and Ziggy Marley, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 46 connections around Deee-Lite, reaching back through Maceo Parker and forward to Barbara Tucker. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
