◇ image via WikipediaEl General
El General is a Reggaeton act. Their sound grew out of Vico C, El Roockie, Bob Marley and Burro Banton. Those roots explain a lot about how El General arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Tego Calderón, Vico C, Reggie Stepper, Calle 13 and Chaka Demus & Pliers, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Farruko, Ivy Queen, Héctor el Father, Polaco and Erick Morillo, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 37 connections around El General, reaching back through Vico C and forward to Farruko.
