Pato Banton is a Reggae act. Their sound grew out of Spirits in the Material World, Eddy Grant, The Young Rascals, The Police and UB40. Those roots explain a lot about how Pato Banton arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Yellowman, Chaka Demus & Pliers, Steel Pulse, Cidade Negra and Aswad, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Ali Campbell, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 32 connections around Pato Banton, reaching back through Spirits in the Material World and forward to Ali Campbell.
