France Joli is a Disco act. Their sound grew out of Barbra Streisand and Crown Heights Affair. Those roots explain a lot about how France Joli arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Carrie Lucas, Gary's Gang, Gayle Adams, Musique and Change, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Gladys Knight, Four Tops, Donna Summer and Carol Jiani, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 30 connections around France Joli, reaching back through Barbra Streisand and forward to Gladys Knight. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
