Imagination is a Funk act. Their sound grew out of Chairmen Of The Board, Central Line, John Lennon and Sonia. Those roots explain a lot about how Imagination arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Shalamar, Skyy, Change, S.O.S. Band and Oliver Cheatham, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Des'ree, Danny Tenaglia and Joachim Garraud, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 33 connections around Imagination, reaching back through Chairmen Of The Board and forward to Des'ree.
