Francis Hime is a Bossa nova act. Their sound grew out of Rosinha de Valença and Guinga. Those roots explain a lot about how Francis Hime arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Johnny Alf, Nana Caymmi, Nara Leão, Caetano Veloso and João Gilberto, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Tony Bennett, Eliane Elias, Wanda Sá, Elis Regina and Ed Motta, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 20 connections around Francis Hime, reaching back through Rosinha de Valença and forward to Tony Bennett.
