João Donato is a Bossa nova act. Their sound grew out of Johnny Alf. Those roots explain a lot about how João Donato arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Marcos Valle, João Gilberto, Tamba 4, Luiz Bonfá and Gilberto Gil, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Alaíde Costa, Lisa Ono, Luiz Bonfá, Leila Pinheiro and Rosinha de Valença, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 21 connections around João Donato, reaching back through Johnny Alf and forward to Alaíde Costa.
