Johnny Alf

Johnny Alf is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Nat King Cole, Alaíde Costa, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and George Shearing. Those roots explain a lot about how Johnny Alf arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as João Donato, Ed Lincoln, Quarteto em Cy, Leny Andrade and Marcos Valle, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Agostinho dos Santos, Carlos Lyra, Antônio Carlos Jobim, João Gilberto and João Donato, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 29 connections around Johnny Alf, reaching back through Nat King Cole and forward to Agostinho dos Santos. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
