Bossa nova

Rosinha de Valença is a Bossa nova act. Their sound grew out of Sarah Vaughan, Baden Powell, Sérgio Mendes, Nara Leão and Quarteto em Cy. Those roots explain a lot about how Rosinha de Valença arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Baden Powell, Luiz Bonfá, Marcos Valle, Arthur Verocai and João Donato, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Francis Hime, Miúcha, Quarteto em Cy, Maria Bethânia and Caetano Veloso, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 40 connections around Rosinha de Valença, reaching back through Sarah Vaughan and forward to Francis Hime. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
