Grinderman is a Garage rock act. Their sound grew out of Alan Vega, Anna Calvi, Memphis Slim and Seasick Steve. Those roots explain a lot about how Grinderman arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Mark Lanegan, Morphine, The Kills and The Gutter Twins, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Demon Queen and Maxïmo Park, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 34 connections around Grinderman, reaching back through Alan Vega and forward to Demon Queen.
