Junior Wells is a Blues act. Their sound grew out of John Primer, Fred Below, Delmark Records, A.C. Reed and Little Walter. Those roots explain a lot about how Junior Wells arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Albert King, Elmore James, Slim Harpo, Magic Sam and John Lee Hooker, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Syl Johnson, Tinsley Ellis, Joanna Connor, Maurice White and Muddy Waters, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 37 connections around Junior Wells, reaching back through John Primer and forward to Syl Johnson.
