The Blues Brothers

Rhythm and blues
Rhythm and blues

The Blues Brothers is a Rhythm and blues act. Their sound grew out of Big Joe Turner, Pinetop Perkins, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and Buddy Guy. Those roots explain a lot about how The Blues Brothers arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Commitments, Ray Charles, George Thorogood & The Destroyers, Bo Diddley and Ike & Tina Turner, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The Grateful Dead, ZZ Top, James Brown and Sam Fender, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 33 connections around The Blues Brothers, reaching back through Big Joe Turner and forward to The Grateful Dead. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
