Paul Young is a House and Rhythm and blues act. Their catalogue also touches Rock. Their sound grew out of Hall & Oates, Kim Wilde, Zucchero, The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS Awareness and Crowded House. Those roots explain a lot about how Paul Young arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Cock Robin, Mike & The Mechanics, Wet Wet Wet, Richard Marx and Spandau Ballet, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The Silencers, Chicane, Alexia and Alexandre Pires, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 48 connections around Paul Young, reaching back through Hall & Oates and forward to The Silencers.
