Plumtree is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Iron Maiden and Jimi Hendrix. Those roots explain a lot about how Plumtree arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Sex Bob-Omb, Self, Los Campesinos!, Camera Obscura and Rocketship, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The Weakerthans, Eric's Trip, The Inbreds and Julie Doiron, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 22 connections around Plumtree, reaching back through Iron Maiden and forward to The Weakerthans. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
Background
Plumtree was a Canadian indie rock/power pop band formed in 1993 in Halifax which consisted of sisters Carla and Lynette Gillis, Amanda Braden, Nina Martin, and later Catriona Sturton. The band achieved moderate success during their seven years of activity, completing several tours of Canada and parts of the U.S., as well as releasing three full-length albums, a six track EP, and various singles, before finally disbanding in June 2000. Their single "Scott Pilgrim" was the inspiration for the title character in the graphic novel series by Bryan Lee O'Malley.
