Sham 69

Punk rock
Punk rock

Sham 69 is a Punk rock act. Their sound grew out of The Clash, Graham Coxon, Sex Pistols, Mott the Hoople and The Who. Those roots explain a lot about how Sham 69 arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Business, Stiff Little Fingers, The Partisans, Anti-Nowhere League and The Oppressed, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Green Day, Black Flag, Böhse Onkelz, Dead or Alive and The 4-Skins, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 40 connections around Sham 69, reaching back through The Clash and forward to Green Day. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
